FDA x Parkmont Debate

Fremont Debate Academy (FDA), a 501 © (3) non-profit organization, will be running its annual Parkmont Debate program for the 5th consecutive year! It will be led by Teacher Mrs. Huff. 

This program is only for 4th - 5th graders and due to the popular nature of the program, it will be open to first time participants only.

Students who have previously participated in the FDA Parkmont Program are invited to be peer tutors and/or student guest judges for practice rounds and may apply as such. For those previous FDA Parkmont students interested in being peer tutors and/or student guest judges, please fill out the form normally and for the question "Have you participated in a Fremont Debate Academy program before", please answer the question with a YES. This will be your application to be a peer tutor / student guest judge. Please be honest - we can double check this.

Students will learn various structured forms of argumentation, and research techniques. Through practice sessions, drills, and mini-competitions, students’ public speaking skills will be vastly improved. The final goal will be to give students a head-start into the highly selective FDA Debate program for students attending Centerville. At the end of the school year, there will be a FDA international tournament! The club will require outside work time (up to a couple hours a week in total) with group members (assigned by Mrs. Huff) either online or via meetups arranged by parents. Please keep this in mind when applying and speak with your child about his/her commitment to this exciting program before applying.
 
Over the past 11 years, FDA has impacted over 7500 elementary and middle school students. Under our instruction, students and alumni internationally over the past many years have championed or qualified to elimination rounds 200+ times, accumulated 350+ winning records, and received 110+ speaker awards.

FDA has also developed programs in 19 states and 8 countries, including Oregon, Arkansas, Australia, India, and more! In addition, Fremont Debate Academy has taught 100+ teachers from institutions like Broward County. Since 2014, our international team of over 200 volunteers has logged over 45,000 volunteer hours, with several volunteers receiving certification for the gold level Presidential Volunteer Service Award from FDA.
 
FDA Parkmont Debate sessions will be held on Thursdays from 2:45 to 4:15pm. There will be 9 classes for this program. The start date for the sessions will be February 12th in P7. Our last session will be on 4/16. 3/19 will be excluded for Spring Break and 5/7 will be excluded due to a conflict. Note: Parents are responsible for picking their children up promptly at 4:15 pm right after the session.
